Today, people prefer to start the day with a glass of
freshly squeezed juice rather than guzzle litres of canned juice. Canned juices
bring in a lot of convenience for those who don't have time, but then the
preservatives and artificial sweeteners used in them force one to reconsider
their use.
If you opt for freshly squeezed juices, getting the right
juicer is half the battle won. But, before that, you must understand the two
main types of juicer machines namely centrifugal and cold press models.
Centrifugal Juicers
The centrifugal design is the oldest on the market. The
juicer gets its name as it uses centrifugal force generated by the rotating
blade to extract the juice from the fruits. It is fitted with a central blade
that rotates at high speed against a mesh chamber. The blade breaks up the
fruit into tiny bits, after which the juice is filtered by the mesh and
collected into a cask or jar via a vent located on the side of the juicer. The
dry pulp collects in a separate chamber.
The centrifugal juicer machine is good for juicing soft
fruits and vegetables, but not so good for leafy greens such as spinach and
kale. In terms of price too, this juicer machine is the cheapest making them
the most affordable. Budgeted models start at $40 while high-end models are
priced as high as $600 - $1,000.
Cold Press Juicers
Cold press juicers are also called masticating juicers. It
is powered by a slower speed motor compared to the centrifugal model. They have
single or dual augers or gears that operate it. Unlike the other type of juicer
machine, cold press juicers mash the fruits and vegetables to extract the
juice. Along with soft fruits and vegetables, cold press juicers do a great job
juicing high fibrous vegetables such as kale, spinach and wheatgrass.
Which is healthier?
The rotating action in a centrifugal juicer generates heat.
The heat oxidizes the nutrients and enzymes in the fruit or vegetable while it
is being juiced. skg juicer This reduces the
nutrient value of the juice considerably. On the other hand, the slow speed of
a cold press juicer makes sure the naturally occurring nutrients remain intact
in the final juice. So, it is obvious that juice made in the latter is
healthier of the two. The other benefit of a cold press juicer is that it is
less noisy in its operation.
